Omar speaks at Tekna AI Act Conference
This week, our Chief Technology Officer, Omar Richardson, had the pleasure of speaking at Teknas AI Act Conference.
The event gathered various stakeholders and experts in both the legal field and in the field of artificial intelligence to discuss the implications and future of the EU’s AI legislation.
In his insightful presentation, Omar highlighted the positive impact of the new AI legislation on both society and the technology landscape. He emphasized that, from a developer's perspective, the AI Act will not bring drastic changes:
“Many of the new regulations align with existing laws, such as GDPR and anti-discrimination statutes. ”
He further elaborated on the AI Act's role in standardizing industry practices.
“With the new legislation, practices like risk analysis, comprehensive documentation, and basic Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) will become mandatory. These are steps that responsible developers and companies are already taking, but now they will be codified into law, ensuring a higher baseline of safety and accountability across the board.”
Omar's presentation underscored the importance of these regulations in fostering a safer and more transparent AI environment. By mandating industry-standard practices, the AI Act aims to build public trust and ensure that AI technologies are developed and used responsibly.
